The Surgeon General
says that the nation's obesity epidemic has gotten so bad it soon
may overtake tobacco as the leading cause of preventable death. In
the U.S., over 60% of adults and nearly 13% of children are
overweight or obese. Surgeon General David Satcher suggests that
public policies could help turn the tide, including daily required
physical education in schools K through 12, better community
playgrounds and outdoor recreation facilities, and the promotion
of "healthy portion sizes." -Associated Press, 2001-
Rebounding,
or bouncing repetitively on a mini-trampoline, is an exercise that reduces
body fat while firming legs, thighs, abdomen, arms, and hips. It increases
agility, improves sense of balance, strengthens muscles, provides aerobic
effect for the heart, rejuvenates the body and promotes a sense of general
well-being. it can be done at home, office, or while traveling. Once you
begin rebounding, you will never want to give it up...

Bouncing on a mini-trampoline may not be your idea of a strenuous aerobic exercise and it may not strike you as having significant health benefits, but in fact, both are the case. Rebounding, as this form of safe, gentle, no-impact
exercise is commonly called, burns more calories than jogging. Trampoline bouncing also can strengthen your heart, improve your circulation, stimulate the flow in your lymphatic system, help slow the effects of aging, revitalize vision, reduce stress, and benefit children with learning disabilities and cystic fibrosis...

Obese
children now have diseases like type 2 diabetes that used to only occur in
adults. Further, overweight children tend to become overweight adults,
continuing to put them at greater risk for heart disease, high blood
pressure and stroke. But perhaps more devastating to an overweight child
than the health problems is the social discrimination. Children who are
teased a lot can develop low self-esteem and depression. You can help your children maintain a healthy body weight by encouraging them to be active...

Common
sense tells us that losing weight and bettering your health is as
simple as managing your food portions and getting some exercise. Our
grandmothers used to tell us that you are what you eat. Now we eat junk food and meals that are handed to us through a drive-thru window in ever increasingly large (supersize portions) while our mobility decreases...

Trampolining is one of the most efficient and effective type of
exercise for the entire body that is widely unknown. It has all of the
benefits of cardiovascular exercise and strength training (improved
circulation, increased strength, develops balance and coordination, etc.)
with many added benefits due to its effect on every cell of the body...

U.S.
Surgeon General Rolls Out 2005 Agenda: The Year of the Healthy Child. U.S. Surgeon General Richard H. Carmona today rolled out his 2005
agenda, announcing it as The Year of the Healthy Child. The Year of the
Healthy Child agenda will focus on improving the body, mind, and spirit of
the growing child. A healthy child begins before birth, so the Office of
the Surgeon General will highlight steps that women should take to keep
themselves healthy, especially when they are considering becoming pregnant.
This includes a healthful diet, exercise, and eliminating tobacco use and
alcohol consumption...

Did you know that to lose one pound of fat you must burn
3500 calories? Regular exercise and reducing caloric
intake will allow you to lose those pounds and inches without stress.
78% of overweight Americans still believe the myth that what you eat makes
diets succeed or fail. The reality is in how much you eat. Super-sizing
means more calories, therefore more pounds packed on annually.
When you
walk, your knees absorb a force equal to about three times your body weight with
each step. So losing just 10 lbs actually relieves each knee of about a 30-lb
load with every stride you take.
The odds of premature death for an out-of-shape woman are three times higher
than normal. For men, they're doubled say University of Chicago researchers.
Easy exercise burns calories and sheds pounds as effectively as a high-intensity
workout, a University of Pittsburgh study says.
Lack of exercise increases the risk of heart disease. Lack of
exercise is also related to other diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and
high blood pressure. Even limited amounts of physical activity can be good
for your heart if done regularly and over the long term. Exercise helps
your heart by strengthening the heart muscle, making the heart more efficient, improving
the flow of blood to the heart muscle and
improving the heart's ability to handle stress.
The health
benefits of regular exercise are well documented. Increased levels of
physical activity are associated with decreased incidence of coronary
artery disease, serum lipid abnormalities, high blood pressure, obesity,
and type 2 diabetes. Many of these health conditions can be prevented with
physical activity, or managed if they should occur. Exercise is at the
cornerstone of treatment for chronic conditions such as heart disease,
hypertension, diabetes, and peripheral arterial disease.
A recent report published by the American Cancer Society shows that
cancer has overtaken heart disease as the number one killer of Americans
under age 85. Deaths due to cancer and heart
disease are falling thanks to better prevention and treatment options, and
a dramatic decline in smoking and an increase in regular
exercise. Likewise, heart disease rates
continue to drop due to the growing proactive solutions
to obesity, poor nutrition, and inadequate exercise. With the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration's recent release of new diet guidelines, there
is increased hope that death rates due to cancer and heart disease may drop
even further. As always, making healthy nutritional and
exercise choices is a good place to begin the rest of your life.
What type of exercise program should you consider? Your exercise program
should be well-balanced and include different types of exercise. These
types include range-of-motion, or flexibility, exercises and strengthening
exercises. If you're looking for a workout program that offers both types
of exercise, you might want to consider rebounding. Rebound exercise
enhances muscle strength and endurance, improves flexibility, builds
cardiovascular fitness, and helps reduce stress. What's more, rebound
exercise is very easy on the joints.
The annual cost of health care for an obese American is $1,500 higher than
for a normal-weight person, a survey of 178,000 people reveals.
-Prevention Magazine, April 2004-
“We are what we
repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” -Aristotle-
The most difficult part about beginning a new activity is just that,
beginning it. A recent study showed that men who had been inactive in
middle age returned to the aerobic level that they had in their 20s after a
vigorous exercise program. You will find genuine satisfaction in seeing the fat melt away
and your energy levels rise. Studies show that
those who exercise on a regular basis report a lower perceived level of
stress and feel that they are more in control of their lives.
